A Smart Investment in Your Dog’s Health
Spaying plays a major role in your dog’s long-term well-being. Beyond preventing unwanted litters, these procedures can reduce the risk of certain medical conditions and help improve behavior over time.
Many pet owners also notice:
- Fewer hormone-driven behaviors
- Reduce the likelihood of roaming or marking
- Lower risk of reproductive-related health issues
Cost Expectations
Our dog spay pricing is by weight, as larger dogs require additional medication and anesthesia. All pricing includes physical examination, anesthesia, surgery, and pain medications during surgery.
- 2-40 lbs – $160
- 40-60 lbs – $180
- 60-80 lbs – $220
- 80 lbs-100 lbs – $270
- 100 – 120 lbs – $310
- 120 lbs + – $350
All dogs are required to have an E-collar (cone) or surgery recovery suit after surgery to prevent licking and chewing of the incision. E-collars are an additional $20 (Surgery suits $30) and are mandatory unless you bring a properly fitting e-collar or surgery recovery suit with you at the time of pickup. All dogs are also required to have Take Home Pain Meds ($20). Additionally, sedatives ($15) for energetic and/or large male dogs may be recommended.
Additional charges ($50-$150) may apply for the following three conditions due to increased surgical time and medications associated with the surgery:
Enlarged Uterus,
Depending on hormonal influence, the uterus may be significantly enlarged during certain times. The uterus may become enlarged prior to visible signs of heat (bleeding/enlarged vulva). Additionally, the uterus may stay enlarged (swollen, larger blood supply, fragile) for up to 3 months following active bleeding. If you prefer to reschedule based on this information, please give us ample notice (no less than 1 week). The best and safest time to spay your female dog is prior to the first heat cycle or 3 months after visible signs of heat as the uterus will have time to return to normal size. We realize this timing is not always possible which is why we offer this service.
Pregnancy
If your female dog is discovered to be pregnant at the time of surgery, the surgery will result in loss of pregnancy. If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, we recommend you visit your regular vet to have x-rays or an ultrasound performed prior to surgery. We are unable to definitively determine pregnancy or stage of pregnancy at our clinic prior to surgery. We will not be able to discontinue surgery once it has begun. In these cases, we administer fluids in recovery to restore blood volume and help anesthetic recovery. An IV catheter and fluids are required for later term pregnancies ($50).
Overweight
If your female dog is overweight, extra charges may apply as this makes the uterus and surrounding tissue friable (delicate) and slippery due to fat surrounding the organs. It is safest for all animals to have healthy body condition prior to anesthesia. The Doctor may require an IV catheter and fluids ($50) or decline surgery if she feels the procedure will put your pet’s health at risk.
Cerenia injection – $40 for less than 50 lbs; $60 for 50 lbs and up – Required for flat-faced dogs (English & French Bulldogs, Pugs, Shih Tzus, etc.) This is an anti-nausea medication given to help decrease the risk of breathing complications secondary to vomiting. This is an optional add-on for other breeds.
